Education & Training

Dr Christine Karanja-Chege holds a Master of Medicine (MMed) degree in Paediatrics and Child Health from the University of Nairobi, with Paediatric Infectious Diseases sub-specialisation from the University of Oxford. She is currently pursuing a doctorate degree in Global Child Health from the University of Amsterdam.

She is a lecturer in the Department of Paediatrics and Child Health at Kenyatta University. In addition, Dr Chege is part of the Infectious Diseases Management team and Chair of the Medical Advisory Committee at Gertrude’s Children’s Hospital, the largest private children’s hospital in East and Central Africa.

Dr Chege is a passionate child health advocate championing child survival under the umbrella of the Kenya Paediatric Association (KPA) where she is a member of the advocacy committee and a past member of the National Board.  Dr Chege has participated in a number of technical advisory groups in the Ministry of Health. She is part of the team working on controlling antimicrobial resistance in Kenya under the Global Antibiotic Resistance Partnership (Kenya).

Further, Dr Chege has been a principal investigator on several projects. Among the recent ones, Dr Chege participated in the J&J-funded Ebola Vaccine Preparedness Initiative, a series of educational webinars bringing together immunization stakeholders from African countries at risk of Ebola outbreaks. She is a member of the European Society for Paediatric Infectious Diseases (ESPID) as well as the Standing Committee on Immunization at the International Paediatric Association (IPA).
