Training of Providers in Emergency Triage Assessment and Treatment Plus (ETAT+)
Since 2008 to date, Keprecon has collaborated with Ministry of Health (MoH), KEMRI/Wellcome Trust Research Programme, Royal College of Paediatrics and Child Health (RCPCH), American Academy of Paediatrics (AAP) among others to carry out training of health managers and providers on ETAT+ and dissemination of the national paediatric clinical practice guidelines (CPGs). The ETAT+ course equips health workers with knowledge, skills and confidence on triage, early recognition, rapid assessment and management of sick children presenting with the commonest causes of mortality in under-5s particularly in resource limited countries.
Keprecon is the administrative arm for the ETAT+ courses in Kenya and has also worked with international partners in Tanzania, Uganda, Rwanda, Zimbabwe, Somalia and Myanmar to adopt the ETAT+ course and delivering of quality trainings and mentorship in the Eastern Africa region. Currently, Keprecon continues to support the ETAT+ related activities funded by different donors to build capacity of health care providers in both government and private health facilities in Kenya. Approximately 4,500 health care workers providing initial care in a typical hospital setting were trained have been trained between 2008 and 2023.
