The Clinical Information Network (CIN) Research Project
The Clinical Information Network (CIN) is an on-going collaborative partnership aimed at improving quality of hospital data and its utilization. The CIN partnership, started in 2008, comprises Keprecon, KEMRI Wellcome Trust, Ministry of Health and 14 County Hospitals.
At the centre of the CIN project is the principle that policy makers, managers and care providers need ‘Quality Information for Quality Care’ hence the participating institutions work towards supporting improved documentation and collection of clinical information that facilitates rapid utilization for improved quality of health care. In this arrangement, CIN works with providers of all levels from interns to nurses, medical officers and paediatricians who make initial contact with patients, as well as health records personnel who generate service data.
CIN produces 3 monthly hospital audit reports that hospitals utilize to identify gaps in care and plan for remedial action. Ultimately, the CIN project has facilitated improvements in documentation of routine morbidity and mortality data, facilitated access to data for quality improvement efforts, promoted development of health information systems that support quality care, and improved health care service planning.
