Immunization Advocacy Initiative (IAI)

This project was implemented in partnership with Ministry of Health and funded by African Population and Health Research Centre (APHRC) through the Foundation. Undertaken from 2019 to 2021, the overall goal of the Immunization Advocacy Initiative was to advocate for increase in domestic financing of immunization in Kenya. Through advocacy and stakeholder engagement, the IAI project strengthened the capacity of national and county level structures to advocate for increased budgetary allocation for immunization programs.

The project facilitated national dialogue through National Vaccine and Immunization Program (NVIP) on vaccine rollout and distribution from point of entry to immunizing facilities, the development of a vaccine’s distribution matrix, review and dissemination of the national immunization guidelines, development of COVID-19 immunization guidelines for use by healthcare workers and community health promoters, and increased disbursement of budget allocation to immunization by the national and county governments.
