COVID-19 Surveillance

Between 2020 and 2021, Keprecon participated in two COVID-19 surveillance studies. In the first study, Keprecon partnered with KEMRI-Wellcome Trust and APHRC in carrying out the Surveillance and Epidemiologic Evaluation of COVID-19 in Kenya (SEECK) study. The aim of the study was to determine the level of COVID-19 exposure in the population in order to inform decisions regarding vaccination and preventive measures.

The study team worked to estimate the proportion of individuals in Kenya had been exposed to COVID-19 as evidenced by the presence of antibodies against SARS-CoV-2 in their blood. In the second study, Keprecon participated in the Hospital-based Sentinel Surveillance for National COVID-19 retrospective data collection at Kenyatta National Hospital.
